"It is not the responsibility of the teacher to let the students do whatever they want; rather it is the responsibility of the teacher to help the students love what they have to do."

Montessori Education for Toddlers – 4th Grade

In fall 2006, Élan Vital Montessori School opened its doors on Perkins Road as the first Montessori School in Baton Rouge dedicated to providing PK3 - 8th grade education. Twenty-five students were in the inaugural class -- 18 in Primary and seven in Elementary.

Our current program offerings include a Toddler Program (18months - 3 years), Early Childhood Primary (3 years through Kindergarten), and Elementary (1st through 4th grade).  It is our intention to continue to add to the Upper Elementary Program and Middle School as our current students progress through the curriculum.

Élan Vital is a traditional not-for-profit private school with a mission
to create and sustain an optimal Montessori educational environment to enable each child to realize his or her richest potential for learning and to become an independent, self-motivated, and contributing member of the world community.  It is our aim to instill respect and responsibility for humankind, the environment, and ourselves.  Élan Vital has an authentic Montessori environment where children develop a lifelong love of learning.

Élan Vital Montessori School admits students of any race, color, gender, national, or ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, gender, national,or ethnic origin in employment or in its administration of its educational policies, admission policies, financial aid programs, athletics, or other school administered programs. Admission decisions are based upon the space available and an evaluation of the suitability of EVM for each student.
