An Élan Vital Montessori Summer

The word summer triggers a sense of freedom in children, a chance to play, and learn in a more relaxed and fun atmosphere. An Élan Vital Montessori Summer offers a variety of exciting and stimulating choices, encouraging children to discover new friendships and explore new experiences, while creating an environment that allows them to feel safe enough to be themselves and to follow their personal path of creativity and curiosity.

An Élan Vital Montessori Summer emphasizes nature and the environment, those things that the summer itself offers in abundance and full splendor.

The camp curriculum has been developed to encompass a wide variety of activities suited to each age’s maturity and interests.  These activities revolve around pre-determined weekly themes designed to engage each camper and enrich their summer experience.  We have wisely integrated in the program a review of reading, writing, and math; always keeping in mind that children are on vacation and fun is necessary.

Campers follow a daily activity schedule.  Following morning activities, campers will eat lunch followed by recess and afternoon activities.  Our Montessori Certified Classroom Teachers will lead various activities depending on the theme of the week.  Some sample activities include Arts & Crafts, Cooking, Field Games, Nature and Gardening, Music/Movement/Drama, Yoga, Science, Arts & Literature, and an occasional Adventure Field Trip.

An Élan Vital Montessori Summer is the perfect place for campers to enjoy and share new experiences; it provides unforgettable memories and solid friendships, which they carry with them throughout the school year.

Campers should bring a lunch, a water bottle, and their personal snacks every day.  We recommend bringing an insulated lunch bag with ice packs.

Theme Weeks for Summer 2010

Week 1  (June 14 - 18):   Kids in the Kitchen - Let your child learn the basics of cooking!  Cooking-related activities, art, and food to make and eat provide the foundation for this fun and "full-filling" week!  A special lunch prepared by the children for a lunch date with parents will be a "yummy" end to the week.

Week 2  (June 21- 25) :   Children around the World - Discover children from far-off lands!  Who are they?  Where do they live?  What makes them special?  In what ways are they the same, or different?  Children are thrilled to learn about other people and cultures as they begin to understand their own.

Week 3  (June 28 - 18) :  Ocean Fun  - Whales and dolphins, fish, sunken ships and treasure.  All the excitement of an undersea adventure.  Youngsters can explore in many different ways as they learn about the vast regions -- under the sea.

Week 4  (July 6 - July 9):  Music and Theatre - 4 day week - Life on the Stage!  Children will learn about an orchestra -- the instruments and the music -- and even try making their own.  Then they will spend time with puppets, dressing up, and make-believe, as they enter the world of the theatre.

Week 5  (July 12 - 16):     Devoted to Dinosaurs  - A full week devoted to a subject close to every child's heart ... dinosaurs!  With dino games, dino art, dino songs, dino play, the fun is endless.  An exciting time for children of any age!

Week 6  (July 19 - 23):     The Five Senses   - exploring the five senses of touch, sight, smell, taste, and sound.  During this week children identify, compare and classify items as they investigate the world around them.

Week 7  (July 26 - 30):     Little Artists  - Little Hands and Big Imaginations!  Children are capable of creating the most amazing things.  All they need is the time, the space, and the materials.  This week we will be exploring colors, textures, and shapes.  Amazing results!!

Week 8  (August 2 - 6):    Wet and Wild  - Lots of outdoor water fun and games, art and exploration.  Indoor activities will focus on weather and how water plays a part in nature.  Bring a bathing suit, towel, and lots of sunscreen!
